AC and Furnace Repair in Rancho Cordova

Rancho Cordova incorporated in 2003 and holds two housing stocks side by side: older homes built for the Mather and Aerojet workforce, and newer subdivisions that have spread south of US 50 since.

The older streets

The older neighbourhoods along Folsom Boulevard, near the former Mather Air Force Base, were built largely in the 1950s and 1960s, many as modest single-storey homes. Central air in them is almost always a later addition, and some still have wall furnaces or older forced-air furnaces in the garage. The questions there are about duct condition, electrical capacity and whether the house can take a heat pump without a panel upgrade.

The newer subdivisions

Anatolia, Sunridge and the newer neighbourhoods built from the 2000s onward have much tighter houses, newer ducts and systems that are mostly R-410A. Problems there tend to be the ordinary ones: capacitors in the first heat wave, drain lines in attic equipment, and two-storey houses with a warm upstairs.

Heat on the eastern side

Rancho Cordova sits farther from the Delta than the Pocket or Land Park, and the evening breeze often reaches it later and weaker. On the long heat-wave stretches that means fewer cool hours for a system to catch up, and more reason to have it serviced before June.

Permits and rebates

Rancho Cordova has its own building department, so replacement permits are issued by the City of Rancho Cordova, with the same Title 24 testing as elsewhere in the state. Electricity is from SMUD, so the SMUD heat pump rebate applies.

If your Rancho Cordova system is struggling, call or send a request and a local heating and air company will call you to arrange a visit.

Rancho Cordova questions

My older Rancho Cordova house has a wall furnace. Can it get central air?

Often, but it means adding ducts, and sometimes an electrical upgrade. A ductless heat pump is a common alternative in houses without room for ducts.

Does the Delta breeze reach Rancho Cordova?

Usually, but later and weaker than in the Pocket or Land Park, so evenings cool off more slowly during heat waves.

Who issues the permit for a new system?

The City of Rancho Cordova building department. The installing company should apply for it and arrange the HERS verification.
